HO CHI MINH CITY, Vietnam (Dow Jones)–Vietnam”s natural rubber production this year is likely at 650,000 metric tons, down from 663,000 tons in 2008 due to reduced acreage because of replanting and damage from flooding in some plantation areas, an industry official said Tuesday.
Natural rubber exports in 2009 are also likely 650,000 tons, up from around 620,000 tons last year due to strong demand from China, said Tran Thi Thuy Hoa, secretary general of the Vietnam Rubber Association.
She said China”s share of Vietnam”s total natural rubber exports this year is likely to rise to 70% from 65% last year.
