Jan 12: Tocom Rubber Settles Higher; May Gain Further

[Dow Jones] Tocom rubber futures settle 2.1% higher after hitting a fresh all-time high; “there are no fresh factors so far, the rise is just backed by very strong fundamentals, (but) there are no bearish factors these days either,” a Tokyo-based broker says; he adds increasing open interest over the last month indicates more headroom for the market; “after all, it”s not even mid-January, so a test of Y500/kg is possible this month” now that prices have hit Y450/kg. Benchmark June rubber settles Y9.2 higher at Y449.1/kg, off a record Y450.2/kg.
