BANGKOK, Oct 6 (Reuters) – Seasonal monsoons in Thailand’s southern rubber producing areas could cut output in the world’s biggest producer by 10 percent a month for the next three months, senior officials said on Tuesday.
“Thai rubber supply in October, November and December is expected to drop by at least 10 percent monthly due to excessive rainfall,” said Apichart Jongsakul, secretary general of Thailands’ Office of Agricultural Economy, part of the Agriculture Ministry.
Southern Thai regions, which produce about 90 percent of the country’s annual production of around 3 million tonnes, are facing heavy monsoon rains.
The country’s meteorological department has warned locals to brace for heavy rainfalls and thunder storms in 70 percent of the region (www.tmd.go.th).
